1. Introduction
Welcome to Courting. These terms form a legal agreement between you and Sjoerd Geistdorfer, a sole trader based in London, United Kingdom, trading as Courting ("Courting", "we", "us", "our"), about your use of the Courting mobile app, the Courting web app at gocourting.app, and any related services (together, the "Service").
By creating a Courting account or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

- Legal notices: legal@gocourting.app
- Postal: Sjoerd Geistdorfer, trading as Courting, 9 Falkland Avenue, London N3 1QR, United Kingdom
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create a Courting account. We verify age at signup and do not knowingly accept users under 16. If we discover a user is under 16, we will delete their account.
You must also:
- Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract in your jurisdiction.
- Provide accurate information when signing up.
- Not be barred from using the Service under applicable law or by a previous decision of ours.
3. Your account
3.1 Creating an account
You can sign in to Courting using:
- Sign in with Apple
- Sign in with Google
- Email address (verified via a secure sign-in link)
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account. If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, contact support@gocourting.app as soon as possible.
3.2 One account per person
Each Courting account represents one real person. You may not operate multiple accounts to manipulate ratings, matchmaking, or other features. See section 5 for what we consider abuse.
3.3 Profile information
Your display name, photo, level badge, and basic profile details are visible to other members of clubs you join. Do not upload content to your profile that you do not have the right to share.
4. The Service
Courting helps clubs, groups, and individuals organise and play social racquet-sport sessions. The Service includes:
- Clubs and sessions. You can join clubs and RSVP to sessions, or organise your own.
- Smart Queue matchmaking. When you check in to a session, Courting matches you with other players using a statistical rating system called your Form.
- Score entry and confirmation. Match results are logged and peer-confirmed by the players involved.
- Form and level progression. Your Form updates as you play and reflects your current playing level.
- Social features. Friendships, partner preferences, and club communities.
We are constantly improving the Service. We may add, change, or remove features, though we will give reasonable advance notice of material reductions in functionality where we can.
5. Acceptable use
When using Courting, you agree not to:
- Use the Service for anything unlawful, harmful, fraudulent, or abusive.
- Harass, threaten, or impersonate other players, admins, or Courting staff.
- Upload content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, discriminatory, or that infringes anyone's rights.
- Attempt to manipulate the Form system. This includes intentionally losing matches, colluding with other players, falsifying scores, or creating duplicate accounts.
- Scrape, crawl, reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise extract data from the Service, except as permitted by applicable law.
- Interfere with the Service's operation, bypass security or access controls, or probe our infrastructure for vulnerabilities without our written permission.
- Use bots, scripts, or automated tools to interact with the Service without our written permission.
- Use the Service to send spam or unsolicited messages to other players.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.
We reserve the right to investigate suspected abuse and to take any action we consider proportionate, including warning you, adjusting your rating, restricting features, suspending your account, or terminating it.
6. Your Form
Your Form is a statistical estimate of your current playing level based on the matches you have played, the players you have played with and against, and your onboarding self-assessment. It is calculated automatically and updates after each confirmed match.
You understand and accept that:
- Your Form is a best-effort estimate, not a certified skill score. We do not guarantee that any particular Form or level corresponds to any objective standard of play.
- Your Form is private. Only you see the exact numerical value. Other players see only your level badge (for example, "Social", "Rally") and a trend indicator.
- Matches are rated, not officiated. Courting does not validate scores beyond peer confirmation. You are responsible for entering accurate results.
- Courting may adjust ratings. If we detect abuse, collusion, or rating manipulation, we may correct, freeze, or reset affected ratings.
- The algorithm evolves. We may update the Form methodology to improve fairness. We will not notify you of every internal change, but we will announce material changes that significantly affect most players.
If you believe your Form is materially wrong as a result of a bug or mis-entered result, contact support@gocourting.app and we will investigate.
7. Clubs, sessions, and other players
Courting is a social product. Much of what happens on the Service (games, sessions, RSVPs, chat) involves other real people.
7.1 Your conduct on court
Courting facilitates introductions and matchmaking. Anything that happens in the physical world is between you and the other players. We are not responsible for your conduct on court, for the conduct of other players, for injuries, for lost or damaged equipment, or for disputes between players. Always play safely, follow your club's rules, and use common sense.
7.2 Club admins
Clubs may be run by individual members who act as admins. Admins can manage sessions, member lists, and certain club settings. Club admins are not employees or agents of Courting, and their decisions are their own. If you have a dispute with a club admin, please try to resolve it with them first. We will only intervene in cases of clear policy violations.
7.3 Other players' content
Other players' profiles, messages, and match entries are their own. We do not pre-screen user content and we are not responsible for it. If you see something that violates these terms, report it to support@gocourting.app.
8. User content
"User content" means anything you submit to Courting: your profile photo, display name, bio, match entries, session descriptions, messages, and so on.
- You keep your rights. You own your user content. These terms do not transfer any ownership to us.
- You give us a licence to run the Service. You grant Courting a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, transmit, display, and adapt your user content solely to the extent necessary to operate, improve, and promote the Service. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where retention is required (for example, anonymised match records described in the Privacy Policy).
- You are responsible for your content. You promise that you have the right to share what you post and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights or applicable law.
- We can remove content. We may remove user content that we believe violates these terms, without notice.
9. Subscriptions (when launched)
At the time these terms take effect, the Service is free to usefor all core features. When subscription tiers launch, they will be offered through Apple's in-app purchase system on iOS, Google Play Billing on Android, and possibly through a web checkout via a reputable payment processor.
When that happens:
- Subscriptions will auto-renew unless cancelled through your app store account settings.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer pro-rata refunds for partial periods, except where required by law (for example, the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 or EU consumer law).
- Pricing, features, and billing terms in force at the moment you subscribe will apply to your current billing period.
- We will update these terms with a dedicated subscription section at least 14 days before subscriptions launch.
If you subscribe through Apple or Google, their billing terms and refund policies apply in addition to ours.
10. Our intellectual property
The Courting name, logo, wordmark, app designs, and all software, text, graphics, and content we create ourselves are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trade mark, and other laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. That licence does not include any right to:
- Copy, modify, or distribute our software or content.
- Use our trade marks without our written permission.
- Build a competing product or service using our content.
11. Suspension and termination
11.1 By you
You can stop using Courting at any time. You can delete your account from the in-app settings at any time. Deletion is immediate and follows the process described in our Privacy Policy (section 8), including the tombstone record used to preserve rating integrity.
11.2 By us
We may suspend or terminate your account if:
- You materially breach these terms.
- We are required to do so by law.
- We reasonably believe you are abusing the Service, other players, or our infrastructure.
- Your account has been inactive for 24 months following the re-engagement process.
Where possible, we will warn you before suspending or terminating your account and give you a chance to fix the problem. In serious cases (threats, fraud, illegal activity), we may act without notice.
11.3 What happens when your account ends
When your account is deleted or terminated, the data handling rules in the Privacy Policy(section 8) apply. Any subscription you have purchased through Apple or Google continues according to the app store's rules until you cancel it there.
Sections of these terms that by their nature should survive termination (for example, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law) will survive.
12. Third-party services
Courting relies on third-party services, including Convex, Apple, Google, Vercel, Cloudflare, and our email providers, to operate. When you use the Service, you may also be subject to those providers' own terms where they apply, for example Apple's App Store Terms of Service and Google's Play Store terms. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
13. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
We do not warrant that your Form accurately reflects any objective standard of ability, that matchmaking will always produce fair or enjoyable matches, or that other players will behave well.
Nothing in this section limits any rights you have as a consumer under UK law that cannot be excluded. In particular, this section does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including the right to services performed with reasonable care and skill.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Service.
- Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising from or related to the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) £50, or (b) the total amount you have paid us in subscription fees in that 12-month period.
- We are not liable for physical injuries, property damage, or disputes arising on court or at any venue. You are responsible for your own safety and conduct.
Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
- Any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
If you are a consumer in the UK, EEA, or elsewhere, your statutory rights are not affected.
15. Indemnity
If you breach these terms or misuse the Service and that causes us loss, damage, or a third-party claim, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and legal costs, to the extent permitted by law and proportionate to your conduct. This does not apply to the extent the loss was caused by our own fault.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes to the Service, the law, or our business. When we make a material change, we will:
- Update the "Effective date" at the top of the document.
- Post a notice in the app and on gocourting.app.
- Email registered users at least 14 days before the change takes effect, where possible.
If you continue to use the Service after the change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, you may delete your account.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms and any dispute arising out of them or the Service are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
We would much rather resolve disagreements informally, so please contact us at support@gocourting.app first. If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, you agree that the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction, except that:
- If you are a consumer living in another part of the UK, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your home country.
- If you are a consumer in the EEA, mandatory local consumer protection rules in your country of residence will also apply.
18. General
- Entire agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy form the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a right under these terms, that does not mean we have waived it.
- Severability. If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the remainder of the terms will still apply.
- No assignment by you. You may not assign or transfer your Courting account or rights under these terms to anyone else. We may assign our rights and obligations to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, on notice to you.
- Third parties. No one other than you and us has any rights to enforce these terms under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
- Notices to you may be sent by email to the address registered on your account or posted in the app.
- Notices to us should be sent to legal@gocourting.app or to our correspondence address.
